A beloved neighborhood bar and grill in Galena, Dillon’s is the kind of place that keeps both locals and visitors coming back time and time again. Known for its great food, cold drinks, friendly service, and laid-back small-town atmosphere, it’s a true local hangout just off the beaten path.

 

Open early for what many call the best breakfast in town, Dillon’s also serves up burgers, pizzas, sandwiches, and ice-cold drinks all day long. Whether you’re grabbing a bite after exploring historic Galena or looking for the perfect spot for a post-wedding breakfast the next morning, Dillon’s is always a good idea.

Ulysses S. Grant Home

Step back in time and tour the home of the 18th President of the United States, General Ulysses S. Grant!

After returning home to Galena following the Civil War, General

 

Grant was welcomed with a grand celebration on August 18, 1865, and presented with this beautifully furnished home by the citizens of Galena. Opened to the public in 1904, the home still features many of its original furnishings and is now preserved as the U.S. Grant Home State Historic Site by the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency.

Galena trolley tours

Step back in time with a historic trolley tour through the charming streets of Galena! These non-stop narrated tours take you past the homes and landmarks that helped shape Galena into a thriving riverboat and lead mining community. Along the way, you’ll see the U.S. Grant Home, Galena’s oldest home, the city’s largest mansion, and many other historic sights while learning the rich history of how Galena got its start.
 

Enjoy the ride aboard open-air trolleys during the summer months or climate-controlled trolleys when the weather cools down. It’s a fun and relaxing way to take in the scenery, history, and unique charm of Galena.

The General Golf Course

Eagle Ridge's crowning achievement, The General opened to rave reviews in 1997 and consistently ranks among Golf Digest top 100 courses. With a 289-foot elevation change from the first hole to the 18th, it boasts spectacular views of the tri-state area. The signature hole is #5, a par 4 with 180 feet of elevation change from tee to green. And if you haven't played The General in a while, you'll be pleased to hear it has been recently renovated back to its original architecture, which means a more enjoyable time for you on the course.

Chestnut Mountain Resort features an array of year-round outdoor activities such as segway tours, bike rentals, river cruises, a zipline, and alpine slide. In the winter, it turns into a ski resort.
